# Azure IoT Edge versions and release notes
[!INCLUDE [iot-edge-version-all-supported](includes/iot-edge-version-all-supported.md)]
Azure IoT Edge is a product built from the open-source IoT Edge project hosted on GitHub. All new releases are made available in the [Azure IoT Edge project](https://github.com/Azure/azure-iotedge) repo. Contributions and bug reports can be made on the [open-source IoT Edge project](https://github.com/Azure/iotedge) repo.
Azure IoT Edge is governed by Microsoft's [Modern Lifecycle Policy](/lifecycle/products/azure-iot-edge).
## LTS release cadence
Azure IoT Edge long-term support (LTS) releases follow the [.NET LTS cadence](https://dotnet.microsoft.com/platform/support/policy/dotnet-core). Each IoT Edge LTS release aligns its .NET components with a supported .NET LTS release, and stays supported through the same end-of-support date. For full lifecycle details, see the [Azure IoT Edge lifecycle](/lifecycle/products/azure-iot-edge).
Current LTS guidance:
* **IoT Edge 1.5 LTS** aligns with .NET 8 and is supported until .NET 8 reaches end of support on November 10, 2026. See the [.NET 8 support timeline](https://dotnet.microsoft.com/platform/support/policy/dotnet-core#dotnet-8).
* **IoT Edge 1.6 LTS** aligns with .NET 10 and is supported through November 14, 2028. See the [.NET 10 support timeline](https://dotnet.microsoft.com/platform/support/policy/dotnet-core#dotnet-10).
* Each new LTS release is planned to ship about six months before the prior LTS reaches end of support, giving customers time to upgrade.
* IoT Edge 1.6 LTS doesn't introduce major feature changes from IoT Edge 1.5 LTS, so upgrades are straightforward.
## Documented versions
The IoT Edge documentation on this site is available for two different versions of the product. Currently, the two supported versions are:
* **IoT Edge 1.6 (LTS)** is the latest long-term support (LTS) version of IoT Edge and contains content for new features and capabilities that are in the latest stable release. The documentation for this version covers all features and capabilities from all previous versions through 1.6.
* **IoT Edge 1.5 (LTS)** is the previous long-term support (LTS) version of IoT Edge and is supported until November 10, 2026. The documentation for this version is included with IoT Edge 1.6.
**IoT Edge 1.4 (LTS)** reached end of support on November 12, 2024. **IoT Edge 1.1 (LTS)** is no longer supported. The [documentation is archived](/previous-versions/azure/iot-edge).
For more information about IoT Edge releases, see [Azure IoT Edge supported systems](support.md).
### IoT Edge for Linux on Windows
Azure IoT Edge for Linux on Windows (EFLOW) supports the following versions:
* **EFLOW Continuous Release (CR)** is based on the latest non-LTS Azure IoT Edge version. This release contains new features and capabilities that are in the latest stable release. For more information, see the [EFLOW release notes](https://github.com/Azure/iotedge-eflow/releases).
* **EFLOW 1.1 (LTS)** is based on Azure IoT Edge 1.1, and is no longer supported. The [documentation is archived](/previous-versions/azure/iot-edge).
* **EFLOW 1.4 (LTS)** is based on Azure IoT Edge 1.4, and was the previous long-term support version. This version was supported until Nov 2024 to match the IoT Edge 1.4 LTS release lifecycle.
* **EFLOW 1.5 (LTS)** is based on Azure IoT Edge 1.5, and is the latest long-term support version. This version will be stable through the supported lifetime of this version and won't include new features released in later versions. This version is supported until November 2026 to match the IoT Edge 1.5 LTS release lifecycle.
All new releases are available in the [Azure IoT Edge for Linux on Windows project](https://github.com/Azure/iotedge-eflow) GitHub repository.
## Version history
This table provides recent version history for IoT Edge package releases, and highlights documentation updates made for each version.
>[!NOTE]
>Long-term servicing (LTS) releases are serviced for a fixed period. Updates to this release type only contain critical security and bug fixes. All other stable releases are continuously supported and serviced. A stable release might contain features updates along with critical security fixes. Stable releases are only supported until the next release (stable or LTS) is generally available.
